Kids And War
Donald J. Shenck
Johnny was 8 years old, when his father went to warHe really didn't understand, what we were fighting forBut he was brave and so very proud, as he took his father's handHe said, "Dad, I'll be just like you, when I become a man."The father fell in a German town near the river RhineAnd he left that sad, lonely boy and pretty wife behindBut somehow they made it through the years, then Johnny was a manBut now there was another war, that put a gun in Johnny's handLike the father, John was brave and he did what he had to doAnd he came through that ugly, evil war, to start his life anewAnd so it's been down through the years, and the saga will repeatAnother child, another war, the marching of the feetSome will live and some will die, some just fade awayAnd only God can change the plot, on that final judgement day![]()
